Homage : Dena Dietrich (1928-2020)

11/26/2020

For us, she was the interpreter of the smiling and energetic Katie Wallace, Brick's adoptive mother in Santa Barbara in 1985. For others, she was a familiar face of American television, following appearances in many series. Many Americans remained attached to the role of Mother Nature that she played in many margarine brand commercials in the 1970s.

Dena Dietrich died on 21 November in Los Angeles of natural causes.

Her last screen appearance was in 2007. She had no descendants.

Tricia Cast back in The Young and the Restless

11/18/2020

To celebrate its 12,000th episode, The Young and the Restless called on former actors to resume, for a few episodes, their role whom marked the soap and its most faithful viewers.
This is how Tricia Cast (ex-Christy DuVall) was called by the production to resume her role of Nina Webster, which she had held in the soap between 1986 and 2001 regularly, then more occasionally between 2009 and 2014.
The return of Tricia Cast is planned for this month of November. Finally a good news for the actress, grieved by the death of her husband, Bat McGrath, one year ago.

The return of Carrington Garland

08/07/2020

The production of season 6 of the webseries The Bay was announced this week.

Great news : Carrington Garland (ex-Kelly Capwell) makes her big return in front of the cameras in the role of realtor Kelly Johnson ! We could not imagine a better nod to her role in Santa Barbara, in a webseries that has already hosted many actors of our favorite soap : Nicolas Coster, Lane Davies, A Martinez, Judith McConnell...
The actress had not played since her departure from Santa Barbara, as she had explained it to us
in the exclusive interview she had given us in 2009. in the exclusive interview she had given us in 2009.

Carrington will however not find any former members of the show, since Nicolas Coster (ex-Lionel Lockridge) announced on his Facebook page that he would not resume his role as Jack Madison, which he held since the beginning, for financial reasons.

Among the former Santa Barbara actors, only Eva LaRue (ex-Margot Collins) went back victorious, by winning the Emmy award of Outstanding guest performer for her role of Celeste Rosales in The Young and the Restless. Congratulations to her !

A few months after the issue of Valentine's Day (see below), the American magazine Soap Opera Digest offers this week again Eden and Cruz on its cover.
This time, it is about a survey on the readers' favorite wedding : in the defunct soaps category, it is Santa Barbara and Eden and Cruz who won !
And this 32 years after the broadcast of this episode in the United States...

Disparition of Soaps in Depth

04/25/2020

The two magazines ABC Soaps in Depth and CBS Soaps in Depth have announced this week the final end of their publication. The last released issues will indeed be the ultimate issues.

Created in 1997, the magazines had at the time a third version, NBC Soaps in Depth, disappeared in 1999. Many covers with actors of Santa Barbara appear on our site.

Eight years after the disappearance of Soap Opera Weekly (see the News of 04/16/2012), it remains today only Soap Opera Digest to cover the news of the American soap-operas, limited it is true to the number of four for a few years.

04/02/2020

After announcing it for a long time, Janis Paige's autobiography has just been published. Reading Between the Lines : A Memoir tells the life and especially the rich career of Santa Barbara's second Minx Lockridge.

Almost sixty years of stage, singing, cabaret, cinema and television... Meetings with Frank Sinatra, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, David Niven, Henry Fonda, Clark Gable, Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis Jr... And a last great role from 1990 to 1993 in a famous soap...

The book is not available in France yet. But we will try to share its good pages with you as soon as it will be !

Homage : John Callahan (1953-2020)

03/30/2020

A few days after Roscoe Born, it is one of his Santa Barbara partners who left us : John Callahan died on March 28.

Before playing Craig Hunt from 1989 to 1992, John Callahan played Leo Russell in General Hospital, then Eric Stavros in Falcon Crest. But it was with his character of Edmund Grey in All my Children, from 1992 to 2005, that he became very popular in the United States. He was later seen in Days of our Lives and The Bay.

In 1996, he married Eva Larue (ex-Margot Collins), with whom he had a daughter, Kaya McKenna, in 2001. The couple had hosted television programs together, such as Weddings of a Lifetime or the Miss America pageant. Divorced in 2005, John and Eva remained on good terms.

Victim of a stroke, John Callahan died suddenly at the age of 66.

Homage : Roscoe Born (1950-2020)

03/08/2020

This is with great sadness that we learn of the death, at the age of 69, of Roscoe Born. For almost two years, he remained at the center of several storylines of Santa Barbara in the roles of Robert Barr since June 1989, then a year later of his twin brother Quinn Armitage.

Roscoe Born's career was mainly made on television, and mainly in soap-operas : Ryan's Hope, One Life to Live, The City, All My Children, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless, Passions... Roscoe has left his mark on a number of soaps, usually in roles of villains. The actor has also tried theatre and song.

He died on March 03 2020, leaving behind his daughter Alberta, born of his marriage to Roberta Bizeau Weiss (ex-Flame Beaufort).

He will be missed by all the fans of the show.

Homage : Paula Kelly (1942-2020)

02/10/2020

Paula Kelly, Santa Barbara's fearsome Ginger Jones, died this Sunday, February 09.

She worked for cinema and television until the late 1990s, but it was on stage that she became known and built her career. Dancer, singer, choreographer... Paula Kelly has covered many scenes and has been rewarded many times for her talents.

Her performance of Ginger Jones in 1984 remained in the memories of all the Santa Barbara fans. Paula Kelly was 77.

Eden and Cruz in Soap Opera Digest

02/09/2020

On the occasion of Valentine's Day, the American magazine Soap Opera Digest honours this week the viewers' favorite soap couples.
For every present or defunct soap, the readers voted to elect their favorite couple. Not surprisingly, regarding Santa Barbara, it is the couple Eden and Cruz who won !
Then arrive Julia and Mason, Mary and Mason, Kelly and Joe, and Gina and Keith.
Homage : Marj Dusay (1936-2020)

01/29/2020

We have just learned the death yesterday, January 28, of Marj Dusay who marked Santa Barbara in the role of Pamela Conrad. Even if she only played the character for six months at the beginning of 1988 (then in a handful of episodes in 1991), her charisma and her sometimes outrageous acting will have made of Pamela an unforgettable character.

If she began her acting career on television in 1967, it is in 1983 that she joins the soap-opera world by succeeding Carolyn Jones in the role of Myrna Clegg in Capitol. At the cancellation of the show in 1987, she joins Santa Barbara to replace Shirley Anne Field. Then, in 1993, she temporarily replaces Louise Sorel as Vivian Alamain in Days of our Lives. The same year, she replaces Beverlee McKinsey in the role of Alexandra Spaulding in Guiding Light, where she stays until 2009. She will however make an infidelity to this soap from 1999 to 2002 to play Vanessa Bennett in All my Children, a character that for the first time she is the first to play !

Marj Dusay had not reappeared on screen since 2009. She died from a disease at the age of 83.
