After
the rape of his wife Hayley, Ted Capwell eventually agrees to go to
therapy with Dr. Sharon Knowles to help him manage the aftermath of the
tragedy. It
is in her office that he meets the young Lucy Pickett.
Lucy,
also a rape victim, has apparently not yet taken over it a year after
the assault on her. She
seems at first timid and scared, but ends up accepting Ted's friendly
hand and having confidence in him. A
certain complicity is established between them, so that even Hayley
seems jealous.
A
few days later, a metamorphosed Lucy invites Hayley and Ted to join her
at the Orient Express. Smiling
and full of energy, she offers them champagne to announce her decision
to stop therapy and go on a long journey. The
couple is surprised, especially since Lucy suddenly leaves the table for
long minutes. Ted
then understands that something is wrong and, remembering her suicidal
past, ends up finding her on the roof of the Capwell Hotel. Lucy
has actually decided to throw herself in the void and refuses to be
saved. It is the
intervention of Cruz Castillo, then in full mourning, which saves her
life. While he
passes the railing to try a dialogue, Cruz slips and is barely caught by
Lucy, who abandons her suicide plans. She
then temporarily settles in the guesthouse of the Capwell Villa with
Hayley.
But
her troubles are not over. As
she goes to Sharon's office, Lucy comes face to face with her rapist,
William Addison. Threatened
and frightened, she calls for help, but neither Hayley nor Ted sees
Addison. The
episode recurs several times, with Lucy still being the only person to
see or hear her former rapist. Cruz
however decides to believe her and investigates Addison, who has indeed
just come out of prison and is hosted in a hotel under another name. He
then sets up a ploy with Lucy to lure Addison at his home and tries to
intercept him, in vain. It is at the guesthouse where, dressed as Lucy
with a blonde wig, he ends up putting him out of harm by shooting him.
Lucy
will not have time to savor her regained peace, the character suddenly
disappears without a goodbye to Ted and Cruz, her two guardian angels...
