Birthplace : Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Raised : Chicago and different parts of the Midwest

Education : Degree in architecture from the University of Wisconsin. "I always acted in school but I figured I needed to major in something more practical."
What he's designed as an architect : "A few things. A cabin up in Washington state and an addition to a house."
Other acting experience : Comedy with the improvisation group Second City, in Chicago; Midwestern theatre productions, including Sexual Perversity in Chicago with Jim Belushi and Romeo and Juliet with Tom Hulce; LA theatre productions, including The Normal Heart with Richard Dreyfuss; television episodes, including Hotel, Remington Steele and Newhart; TV movies, including Hot Pursuit and An Early Frost; and the feature film Shadow Chasers (which is fact a TV show).
Most interesting non-acting job : A bank teller. "When they wanted me to join their corporate training program I left. Also, driving a municipal bus. It was a big bus."
Most romantic thing he's ever done for someone : "In my younger, frivolous days, when I felt in love for the first time, I found myself on a family vacation and not wanting to be there. I took off for a walk and climbed the top of this mountain and I shouted the girl's name."
Worst date : "It was probably the funniest date, but at the time, I thought it was horrible. I was in Chicago doing theatre. A prop-woman set me up with her sister who was much younger than me and infatuated with me. We had absolutely nothing to talk about. I knew I was in trouble when I started talking about the weather. We spent the whole afternoon together at the Lincoln Park Zoo. All of the animals were either going to the bathroom or fornicating. It was pretty uncomfortable."
Why soaps aren't everything he expected them to be : "...sometimes there are long periods during the day where I have nothing to do. I'm not good at sitting around so I've started to read more and write letters. Me ! Write letters !"
What people would be surprised to know about him : "I'm hysterical."
