Is the Santa Barbara cast purge over ?

In recent months, Santa Barbara has axed several key actors, including Steve Bond (ex-Mack), Julie St. Claire (ex-Tawny) and Constance Marie (ex-Nikki). Now Terry Lester (Mason) has added his name to the casualty list.

Will the cast purge continue ? We checked with the show itself, and learned there's a substantial amount of good news along with the bad.

For starters, Nancy Grahn (Julia) just signed a brand-new contract, which will keep her on Santa Barbara through 1991. She'll remain a front-burning heroine, caught between her unstable, estranged husband Mason and Dash Nichols, the mysterious young man who is increasing attracted to her.

Roscoe Born (Robert / Quinn) won't be deserting his leading lady, Carrington Garland (Kelly), anytime soon. His contract doesn't come up for renewal until June 1991 and, until then, the show has lots of hot story ideas for him.

Rumors that Judith McConnell (Sophia) might be leaving are totally unfounded. She just inked a new contract.

Santa Barbara assures us that Marcy Walker (Eden) won't be making an abrupt exit either. She says she'd only quit if a serious work conflict came along that couldn't be resolved. Right now, she's content to sandwich in TV movies (like Babies) on brief vacations from Santa Barbara. In others words, only her own prime-time series or a major movie deal would take her off the soap permanently.
