Santa Barbara, the new daytime drama set in the California community of the same name, debuted on July 30th on NBC. The show was developed by Jerome and Bridget Dobson, the talented team who previously wrote for General Hospital, Guiding Light and As The World Turns.

Dame Judith Anderson who was last seen in Star Trek III, heads a cast that includes soap veterans Nicolas Coster (One Life to Live), Marcy Walker (All my Children) and Lloyd Bochner (Dynasty).

The four core families of Santa Barbara are :

The Lockridges : Minx Lockridge is the matriarch of the family. Her son, Lionel, is squandering the family money. Lionel's former wife, Augusta, has a son, Warren and a daughter, Laken.

The Capwells : Channing "C.C." Capwell is the most powerful man in town, whose wealth and position in society date back to the Mayflower. C.C.'s children are Kelly, Eden, Ted and Mason, his son from his first wife Pamela. Another son, Channing Junior is recently deceased.

The Andrades : The Andrades are Mexican-Americans whose ancestors have been in Santa Barbara since the invasion of Cortez. Ruben and Rosa are the parents of Santana, Olivia, Danny and Gabriella. Although they aren't well-to-do, the Andrades are a close-knit family who are determined to make their dreams come true.

The Perkins : Blue-collar worker John Perkins and his wife, Marisa, have two children, Jade and Joe. Joe's an ex-convict, who is searching for his lover, the wealthy Kelly Capwell.
