These
snow-capped mountains, perfectly white, with peaks that border the sky, will be
the place of Eden Capwell and Cruz Castillo's wedding. Of
Utah, and particularly of the region of Beautiful Picks, we will only see high
mountains completely covered with snow, deep cliffs (including the one where
Elena Nikolas pushes Eden), icy roads, pine forests, a small clearing at the top
of a mountain where Cruz will leave a red rose in memory of Eden. It is besides
this same meadow that he will regularly see in his nightmares in which he
imagines that a very serious misfortune befell on his beloved.
In
the midst of these mountains, isolated on a hillside, can be found Cain's cabin,
since it is settled at several days of walk from the nearest town, away from all
civilization. His nearest neighbor, Clint, is at several hours of walk. Of this
city, we know that there are shops and a small hospital. Below the cabin, a lake
occupies most of the clearing. This is where Cain leads Eden for her to swim,
and to feel for the first time since the accident her legs moving.
Later
we'll see the Utah mountains, after the snow has melted, during Cruz and Kelly
Capwell's pilgrimage, who came to pay a last tribute to Eden. During this
tribute, Kelly, constrained to let Cruz go alone to the scene of the accident,
stops a moment to read a poem to the attention of his sister.
Cruz
finishes alone the ascent of the mountain, to find the true place of the crash
of Eden's plane. There, in harmony with the woman he loves of all his being, he
finds the necessary courage and strength to bid farewell to his bride. In the
absence of the body, as anyone facing a separation, Cruz is forced to invent a
place of contemplation, one of those places apart where the soul of the loved
one can be in peace. It is on this same ground which has taken to him what he
held the dearest in the world that Cruz will build a small stone mausoleum,
confiding Eden to the mountains.
Thereafter,
these places filled with beauty will never be mentioned again, as if Eden and
Cruz have permanently erased all traces of this painful memory.
