The
hospital of Santa Barbara is a big public hospital complex, which welcomes -
generally as a matter of urgency - all the injured and wounded characters,
whatever the nature of their pain.
The complex seems very spacious and animated in the first years of the show. We do not count the doctors, the nurses, the patients who march in the background.
However it will take a darker form, close to seclusion, during its big set changes during the year 1988.
A new welcome area, more clear, with a reception and an access to the elevator, will appear to the screen in the second half of year 1988.
In 1992, this space knows new colors, in more blue tones.
The place obviously contains an emergency service, a surgery room, a rest room for the staff, and a chapel to meditate.
We can consider that each of the main characters of the show had one day to pass on one of the operating tables, or to stay in one of the bedrooms, often richly decorated, of the establishment. Among the nursing staff, we can quote in 1987 Mr. Blake (head doctor), Dr. Joseph Noah (manager of the hospital), and Dr. Scott Clark (general practitioner). In 1988, will come to join the hospital : Dr. Heather Donnelly (as a psychiatrist), Dr. Arthur Donnelly (surgeon and Heather's father), then Dr. Zack Kelton (a gynecologist).
