At the beginning of year 1986, we discover a new property of the Capwells, a cabin, hidden in an isolated, blazing and romantic green setting. A single road allows to reach it by car, through the Los Padres national forest of. It is there that Pearl Bradford organizes, without their knowledge, a reunion between Eden Capwell and Cruz Castillo. But unintentionally, he also puts on their track Kirk Cranston, Eden's husband, mad of jealousy. It is also in this cabin, and the same day, that Mary DuVall and Dr. Mark McCormick come to rest. Mark hopes to make of this stay a romantic moment for him and Mary, and to ask her to marry him.
All built of wood, the cabin wants to be the most rustic as possible. No heating or warm water, everything goes by the fireplace and some gas. The inside is nevertheless cozy, richly furnished and decorated. To the left of the entrance, a staircase allows to reach the bedrooms. At the end of the room thrones a stone fireplace.
We know of the cabin only this main room, and two others : the bathroom (from where Kirk spies on Eden and Cruz through the window), and the garage.
Outside of the cabin, something is going to turn Eden, Cruz, Mary and Mark's stay upside down : the bottle of propane which is used to warm them. Kirk voluntarily causes a gas leak which, because of a burning kerosene lamp, causes an enormous explosion. The cabin is greatly damaged, hurting seriously Mark (who will however recover a few days later).
We shall not hear about the Santa Ynez cabin any more afterward, certainly an too bad memory so that the Capwells thinks of restoring it.
