The Clark family is of these families which hide under violent feelings and well settled decisions the impact of wounds from the past. Wounds which were made to them by women. In the course of the events, each of the members of this family tries to face the woman who profoundly hurt them. However it will turn out to be very difficult, even impossible, for the men of this family to get rid of the ideal that they built up themselves to escape the weight of the absence of the mother or the wife.

It is at first Ben's wife, Scott's mother (of whom we ignore the name), who profoundly guided this family towards a very male chauvinist behavior. Abandoned, Ben raises his children alone by inculcating them a deformed education, marked by the absence of women. Indirectly, Ben passes on them his own fears and his own criticisms on the fair sex.

This weight is passed down from generation to generation, Scott being the best pupil. Ben's education impact is such as at the least gap made from his morality, Scott breaks any contact with the women he dates : it is the case with Gina when he discovers her lies, it is also the case with Celeste when he discovers his past in prostitution (this painful fact remembering him his mother's absence).

Idealizing the image at the same time of the woman and the mother, the impact of women on the Clarks extends well beyond the members of the family, because Pamela manages to get the upper hand over Hal Clark, during their affair. The situation will eventually get out of hand and will end in blood.
