It seems difficult for the members of the Castillo family to find a place, so much the position which we could consider as solar occupied by Cruz is determining for all. At first because he became, at Rafael's departure, the man of the family : he is at the same time an older brother for Ric, a father for his sister Carmen and the man of the family for their mother. It is on his strength of character that the balance builds itself and holds.

Central pivot of this family, Cruz shows a difficult way for his owns, because he is a straight man, profoundly honest, loyal, faithful, fair and especially profoundly respectful of the law, profoundly in love with Eden Capwell. Cruz, in spite of the events, imagines and builds a life, a future, for them, with the inner conviction that the love which was entrusted to him is the most beautiful, the biggest wealth. His most beautiful teaching is undoubtedly that the other one is essential.

In front of such a charisma, Ric or Carmen well notice that they cannot compete. Carmen will never find a way to exist, and the little of life which she experiences is only in the steps of her older brother. She prefers the frivolity of her age. As for Ric, he has never known how to find his place in the shade of this older brother, very too much perfect. The border between shadow and light is very fast crossed, and he will have no other choices only to follow a road very different from his brother's to simply be. And even if thanks to Adriana, the road of both brothers meets, never Cruz can remove this grey area which guides Ric's life.

The departure of his father changed Cruz's vision. But his convictions are going to vacillate when he discovers that his mother's past is not the one that she let him believe. However, although the paternal and maternal images suffer from imperfections, Cruz keeps a stiff upper lip. The only drama capable of affecting him and of changing him can be only connected to the one he loves : Eden. Moreover, not being able to face the petition for divorce, Cruz leaves the city, leaving all the weight of his inheritance and his education in the hands of his daughter, B.J..
