Kelly confesses to Nick that she bought all the books so that he doesn't feel like he failed. She finally confesses to him to have slept with Dylan. Nick prefers leaving. Kelly makes the same admission to her father, who criticises her. Pearl runs to the limousine to call an ambulance. But the housemaid has already alerted a policeman who stops Pearl in the vehicle. Cruz is alerted and drives there with Courtney. She identifies her sister. She points out a cigarette on the floor in the hotel room. She goes back later to recover her, but a policeman prevents her from this and takes over. Cruz questions Pearl at the police station. Julia, his lawyer, is despaired that Pearl still refuses to give information on his past and uses an accent to speak. Courtney, who had at the beginning accused Pearl of her sister's murder, arrives to pay his bail to release him. Madeline is brain dead. After Hayley shares this news with Gina, she has idea that Madeline's heart could be transplanted to Kirk. Hayley shares this idea with Ted who submits it to his father...

Augusta reserves the Orient Express to organise a party to celebrate the sale of Lionel's pictures. But all the guests lose their way. Finally, the only one who arrives is Lionel who joins her and they share champagne together. Mason makes a photo fit of Bobbie's attacker. Mary sees the portrait and recognises Mark. Mason had followed Mark and surprises him in a pornographic cinema. He arranges to meet him that evening in the Capwell gazebo. Stunned Mark asks him not to tell Mary. After Mark leaves, Bobbie comes into sight: she recognised her attacker. At the motel, Cruz asks Pearl to re-enact his discovery of Madeline's body, when suddenly a man arrives. It is David Laurent, Madeline's husband. C.C. asks David if he accepts that Madeline's heart is transplanted to Kirk, after the examinations have shown their compatibility. David accepts and Julia takes care of the formalities. Madeline's machines are disconnected. Cruz questions David. David explains that he was in Hong Kong the last time he spoke to his wife, and that he was in Boston at the time of her death. David surprises Courtney searching his suitcase, in search of his case with cigarettes. Cruz learns that at the time of her death, Madeline was phoning Eden at Stanford's hospital...

In the Orient Express, Lionel organises a delivery of a tub and pours several bottles of champagne in there. He lifts unruly Augusta and throws her into it fully dressed. They are spotted in their frolics by Sophia and C.C., who have arrived to have dinner. Courtney manages to recover the case with cigarettes in David's suitcase. David entrusts his love to Julia. Pearl succeeds in making Courtney say that she suspects David of having killed her sister. He asks her to announce her suspicion to Julia. Eden announces to Kirk that it is going to receive the heart from her cousin. While the operation begins, Cruz joins Eden in Stanford's hospital. He asks her what Madeline said to her on the telephone just before her death. The call seems to have been insignificant. Cruz discovers that Eden received calls from Nick. He suspects that something torments her, but Eden refuses to confide...
C.C. sees Dylan and Sam to sign papers to transfer the casino property. Sam announces his departure from Santa Barbara and C.C. wishes him good luck. Kelly comes to recover her stuffs at Nick's. At her request, Cruz goes too so that he is sure that Nick goes. Kelly goes to a psychologist to whom she entrusts her feelings with. Dylan finds Kelly in the Orient Express. He is persuaded that she abandoned the idea of getting married to Nick to be free for him. He gives her a ring and asks her to marry him. Mason makes Mark and Bobbie meet. Mark gives some money to Bobbie to avoid charges. He makes Mason promise to repeat nothing to Mary. Mary, after speaking with Mark's doctor, learns that he is powerless after the accident. She argues with him in the Orient Express and goes back to the Capwell villa. Mason joins her there and finds her crying. He thinks that Mary discovered everything concerning Bobbie and tells her everything about the fact that Mark saw a prostitute frequently...

With the night spent, Augusta finds Lionel on the beach. He is admiring the passage of Halley's Comet in the telescope. He gives Augusta a romantic vision of the sky and planets. Mark confesses to Mary that he went out with a prostitute to demonstrate something to himself. Mason comes to comfort Mary and they embrace each other. Courtney announces to Cruz that she thinks to have seen David at the motel a few days before Madeline's death. She thinks that David is the murderer. Cruz confirms his suspicion by telling her that Madeline intended to ask for a divorce, which would have made David to lose his inheritance. After the funeral ceremony, Cruz and Pearl go to the Capwells. Cruz asks to question David. Kelly pushes back Dylan's advances. But Dylan uninterrupted follows her up to the Capwell residence. While Kelly gets out of the bathroom, she finds roses on her bed. Suddenly Dylan bursts out, with a rose in his hand...
With Dylan having a rose in his hand, Kelly has flashes of Peter Flint and the carnations. She howls, appraises panic. Mason runs up and makes Dylan run off, who remains persuaded that Kelly is in love with him. Nick shows Eden the handwritten order form of the cables that she found in the boathouse. But she tells him that she does not recognise the writing. On the beach, Courtney and Pearl embrace each other. Cruz questions David: he tells him that he was in New York when he learnt of Madeline's death. But Cruz retorts him that a witness saw him in Santa Barbara the day before the murder. David changes his statement and confesses that he came to Santa Barbara that day at Madeline's request, who wanted to speak to him about his petition for divorce. Cruz finds cuff-links in David's suitcase. Kelly packs her suitcases from the Capwell residence and becomes established in a small flat after midnight. She dreams that Dylan enters by the window, and sees Peter Flint in her nightmare. Cruz joins Eden while she leaves for Stanford: she learnt by telephone that Kirk rejects the transplant...

Nick goes to Kelly's flat to bring some of her stuffs and finds Dylan alone inside. Dylan tells Augusta that Kelly cancelled her marriage with Nick only to be free for him. Eden entrusts to her mother that she regrets having got married and that she was never in love with Kirk. C.C. invites Sophia to a romantic dinner in the Capwell residence. But Augusta informs him that Sophia has a gallant appointment with Lionel. Augusta spies on them on in the Capwell gazebo and accomplishes that they are only talking business and that they part with a simple handshake. At the entrance in the villa, C.C. announces to Sophia that he cancelled their dinner and puts her outside. He then receives a call from Augusta who tells him that she was wrong about the nature of the business between Sophia and Lionel. In the hospital in Stanford, Cruz questions Eden about the inquiry which she asked Nick to do. He guesses that it is about what happened in the boathouse. He explains to her that he thinks that the explosion of the chalet was perhaps not accidental and that this person meant it. Eden makes Cruz understand that she suspects Kirk of being the culprit. They are interrupted by Kirk's return from the operating theatre: the doctor announces that he is going to live even for a long time...

C.C. tries to dissuade Ted from going out with Hayley. Ted follows Hayley to Angel's place and is surprised to find her in the boy's flat. Hayley, surprised at seeing him, lies to him by telling him that she is accommodated at a woman's whom she met. But Angel comes back accidentally, and Hayley must confess that she lied. Ted excuses her. They have a picnic on the beach and embrace each other. Cruz obtains the results from the laboratory: David's cuff-links contain Madeline's blood. Cruz arrests David and undertakes his cross-examination at the Capwells, in the presence of Courtney. David admits that he arrived at the motel the day of the murder, and that he found Madeline dead, covered with blood. Cruz asks him where the shirt which he wore that day with the cuff-links is. David reveals where he hid it and a policeman is going to recover it. Courtney is confused. Dressed up as a nurse, Gina visits Kirk in the hospital. C.C. asks Warren to regulate the debts of the casino. He offers to sell him the property that Minx owns in exchange for the debts. Augusta and Lionel try to dissuade him from it. Secretly, Warren buys a revolver. Gina phones Kirk and makes him listen to the tape which she made him confess her attempted murder of Eden...

Warren goes aboard on the ferryboat which links up the casino to the continent, dressed in a wetsuit and in an oxygen mask. Sophia, Amy and Brick are joined by a security agent there watching the recipe of the day. Suddenly Warren comes into sight, hides the briefcase containing the money and heads back. The security agent grabs him. Warren swims up to the basin of the boathouse. He hides the briefcase, and falls on the ground, hurt by a bullet. Questioned by the police, Sophia has a feeling to have recognised the thief. Amy offers Brick to make a child together. Mark, completely drunk, finds Mary in the Orient Express. Exceeded by his behaviour, Mary ends up confessing to him that she knows that he is powerless. Cruz drives David to the police station. David asks Julia to be his lawyer, but she fears not being up to it. Stunned Augusta reminds her of a failure which she knew about in Phoenix and that caused the life of a man. Cruz asks Eden to react her fight with Gina in the boathouse. He finds a bullet from a gun drawn in a wall. He promises Eden to look after her...

Mason gives a press conference during which he announces that the prosecutor called him to lead the procedure against David Laurent. After a long hesitancy, Julia agrees to be David's lawyer. Dylan enters Kelly's place while she has a nightmare where Dylan and Peter mingle. While she knows about a water leak in the kitchen, Kelly receives a visit from Justin Moore, her neighbour, by the window, whom she had a habit of listening to him playing the saxophone. Having learnt from Dylan where Kelly is living now, Mason arrives at her flat and finds her together with Justin, his shirt off from the water leak. Sam goes to see Dylan whom he accuses of having stolen the money from the casino. In the Orient Express, Sophia points out Warren's watch and recognises that it's the same as the thief. Also recognising his voice, she follows him up to the boathouse, where Warren comes to recover the money which he stole. Warren threatens Sophia with the revolver and manages to escape in spite of the wound to his shoulder. Sophia informs Brick, but asks him not to alert the police. Kelly goes to the graveyard to Joe's grave. She has a vision with Peter in it and panics when she suddenly sees Dylan arriving...
