A serviceman on leave, Lieutenant William Barlow boards a train to Mexico City in the same compartment as Victoria Lane and Chip. Very quickly, very happy to discuss with a civilian, he starts the conversation, monopolizing almost all the speaking time; he specifies to Tori that, from Mexico, he knows only Acapulco which climate does not suit him.

While congratulating her on her beautiful child, he questions her about her life without an ulterior motive, just for the need to speak. Victoria then invents a fulfilled and happy life with a retired Major spouse (Phillip Hamilton ?). William Barlow briefly ends up telling her about a woman he met in Hong Kong with whom he could have had a life. But life, no the army, decided otherwise.

During their brief exchange, William Barlow finally notices the anxiety in her neighbor. Clumsily, he gives an advice to Tori to take care of the child. He is then told firmly off : she knows how to take care of her child. He ends up apologizing and leaves the compartment.

A few hours after this meeting, Victoria will take Chip back to his father and make the painful decision to leave him the child. Is it a coincidence ?...
