 Aging
King of New Stailand, a small state in Central Europe, his only hope is
to have an heir and to ensure continuity at the head of his kingdom. The
child presented to him in a cradle reassures him because he embodies the
continuity he has awaited since the death of his son. On several
occasions, the old man shows great affection toward the child, this
child who will soon be crowned king and who will succeed him.
The
old man sees his dreams go up in smoke when the truth comes to light.
Based on documents brought by Julia Wainwright, Amy and Brick Wallace,
the King realizes the duplicity of his family through Princess Celeste,
as well as that of his closest advisors, his Prime Minister and Jack
Lee. The veil is lifted, and the King must face the truth.
First
truth : he must distinguish Jack Stanfield Lee from his evil double and
accept the reality that Jerry, Jack's cousin, has transformed himself to
take his place. Second truth : his grandson is not the child of his
daughter-in-law, but that of an unknown woman, Amy Perkins. Despite his
age, the King accepts without batting an eye the concept of in vitro
fertilization. The
final truth concerns his daughter-in-law : she confesses to the murder
of her husband, Prince Adrian, and admits to the cartel's plan to seize
control of New Stailand.
It
is as a monarch that he makes all these decisions, setting aside his
personal pain. He unmasks Jerry before everyone, orders the arrest of
his Prime Minister and his daughter-in-law, and, above all, welcomes
little Johnny into his life. He even offers Amy the chance to stay and
to assume her role as mother to the future king.
Truth
after truth, despite his age, the King rises to the challenge for the
survival of his kingdom and proves himself, quite unexpectedly, to be
resolutely modern. An endearing character, the King will, during the
first months of little Johnny's life, take on the role of a grandfather.
