 Mark
is the stereotypical symbol of a young man from a well-off Californian
family, with only one goal in mind : to live life to the fullest,
indulging in excess without worrying about the consequences... Blond,
with a sun-kissed complexion, he spends most of his time on the beach
with his friends, barely concerned about his studies.
If
he is seeing Laken Lockridge, it is mainly because they both attend
Lyman Prep, and since her breakup with Ted Capwell, Laken has been
looking for someone who is the complete opposite of him (Mark is
certainly a sign of Laken's transformation, and this relationship
foreshadows her later one with T.J. Daniels).
Mark
is present at every party. And today, he can take pride in having on his
arm one of the prettiest girls at Lyman, Laken Lockridge. Always under
Ted's watchful eye, he is seen dancing with Laken at the State Street
bar, at the opening of the Orient Express, often with a flask of alcohol
on him. All too often, his behavior toward Laken is pushy, while she,
for now, is reluctant to be too openly affectionate in public.
At
the Orient Express opening, he takes the opportunity to mock Ted (calling
him “Teddy Boy”) and especially to taunt him with the fact that his
ex-girlfriend is now on his arm. In response, Ted calls him a loser. The
two end up fighting in front of all the guests. Mark does not care,
because the fight makes him feel like he exists. Drunk, he lets Laken
leave the party while he stays behind with his friends.
After
Laken leaves, Mark suggests to Jade and his friends that they continue
the night at his place to have some fun. In his convertible car, he
keeps drinking, which worries Jade Perkins and amuses the two friends in
the back seat. Jade eventually stops the car in the middle of nowhere
and leaves them there. Mark then drives off to continue his night with
his friends, without any concern for Laken or Jade. That is his true
nature !
