An
old photo of a blonde woman. A blue dress… These are the only material
memories of Claire Kelton, memories preserved by her brother, Zack.
Announced dead in 1984 by Zack to Heather, Claire is a woman of the
past, of a past that never ceases to impact the present.
Claire
Kelton has been institutionalized for several years in a mental
institution. Abandoned by everyone and by her brother, she is a mentally
unstable woman who does not leave her room. However, she agrees, at 4
a.m., to meet Julia Wainwright and Michael Donnelly. In front of them,
facing their questions, her behavior does not stop changing : at first
happy to have visitors, then fearful when they ask questions about her,
then angry and unstable when they talk to her about Zack and their
relationships. Her behavior, her actions, are in opposition to the
speech she is holding, and ensures that she and Zack got along well.
Rage
and fear inhabit Claire and, when she thinks she understands that Zack
could be there, she runs away from the room, as if fear of the past had
just invited itself into the asylum walls. And a truth will then
surface, between her silences and her words : she would have been
sexually abused in the past by her brother. But the truth that Claire
lets out is not the truth.
The
truth about Claire's personality will be delivered by her brother : it
was she who abused him from a very young age.
Both
a character from the past and from the present, Claire allows us to find
an origin for Zack's "fanatical" behaviour...
