Bus
driver on the line San Francisco - Santa Barbara, he is used to
transport passengers in relation to Saint Quentin prison : families of
prisoners, guards, released prisoners... This is indeed the situation he
experienced on July 30, 1984, when he sees Joe Perkins approaching his
bus. Dressed all in jeans, it is obvious to him that Joe is a prisoner
who has just been released. There is no doubt that he is still in
contact with a certain milieu, with the two henchmen who circle around
him : Jake and his sidekick.
On
the way, if he looks at Joe's face in his rearview mirror, he cannot see
through his thoughts. The trip to Santa Barbara goes well, even if the
driver notices in his rearview mirror a black car following his bus from
San Francisco. As shots are fired from the car, he notices his strange
passenger jumping to the ground to avoid bullets. Panicked, the driver
stops the bus, not wanting to continue his journey. Panic sets in on
board. Convinced by the former prisoner's determination, he has no
choice but to continue on his way to the seaside resort.
Arrived
at the bus station, he is relieved to have been able to finish his route
without further difficulty, even if a strange welcome committee awaits
him at the station.
