The svelte man walked into the ornate ballroom and casually looked around the expanse of the dance floor and surrounding tables. The chandeliers were dimmed enough to cast a warm glow on the dancers who were floating across the floor in tune with the soft beat of the melody. His eyes came to rest upon a striking woman sitting at a table by herself. She was admiring the dancers as they drifted by. He
wasn't sure if she was waiting for someone, but he knew that a woman who was this beautiful
wouldn't be alone for very long so he had to take the chance and ask her to dance. He
couldn't believe how enthralled he was by her presence in the room. All of his attention was focused on her. He began to walk across the dance floor, dodging couples as they moved around him. As the final couple glided in front of him, he had reached his destination. The object of his obsession looked up at him as he suddenly appeared in front of her. The enchanting lady was instantly awestruck by the handsome, distinguished man that had seemed to come out of nowhere. He held out his left hand and
asked, "Will you please do me the pleasure of taking my hand and doing me the honor of gracing this dance floor with your incredible
beauty?"
She smiled and slipped her right hand into his welcoming grasp. She gracefully stood up and let the charming gentleman lead her. Together, the newly united couple stepped onto the parquet floor. He turned her around to face him and looked deeply into the aquamarine eyes of this striking woman with whom he knew he wanted to be with for the rest of his life. He then placed his right hand on the middle of her back and gently pulled her into him, all the while never breaking his gaze into the windows of her soul. She in turn slid her left hand up the lapel of his tuxedo and rested it upon his shoulder. Their free hands were firmly clasped together. She was mesmerized by the way in which his chestnut eyes had rooted themselves into her mind so that all of her senses were centered on him. He twirled her around and then they began to dance. Their steps were matched perfectly as if they had been dancing together for a lifetime. Each held the
other's gaze, until he pulled her closer to him so their bodies meshed together. As she nestled her head into his shoulder, she took in an audible gasp of air as the sexual tension increased with the crescendo of the song, At Last by Etta James. He felt her body tense with excitement and he curled his fingers around her hand to let her know that he felt the same way. Their spontaneous connection to one another caught them both by surprise. As they continued to dance in sync, each closed their eyes to make a forever memory of this remarkable moment. Neither thought they would ever be able to be together this way again. As they continued to glide across the dance floor, neither realized that they were being watched by the other dancers and onlookers around the room. The couple was too occupied with the rhythmic flow of their bodies to notice anything or anyone else surrounding them. Through her silk dress, she could feel the softness with the contrasting strength of his hand as it caressed her back. Her skin tingled beneath her clothing. The song was beginning to fade, but the man
didn't want to release his newfound partner. He leaned down and brushed his lips across her forehead and then he lifted his hand and gently stroked her cheek. He just
didn't want to let go of this wrinkle in time. He wanted more of her; body and soul. He wanted to kiss her so badly, but was too afraid she would just disappear. At that point, the captivating woman looked at her charismatic suitor and
said, "I want to personally thank you for the lovely dance, but I don't even know your name." She bit her bottom lip as a distraction from the urge to just pull him down to her wanting
mouth.
"Oh, pardon me miss, my name is CC Capwell. When I saw you sitting there at the table, I was just so spellbound by your beauty that I just had to ask you to dance. I hope your impending date
won't be too angry with me for asking the most gorgeous woman in the room to share a dance with
me."
A small smile broke across her face and she replied, "Actually, I wasn't waiting for anyone else but you." CC was elated to hear those words being spoken by the magnificent woman who fit perfectly in his arms. She reached up and placed her hand on the back of his neck and
said, "I love you Mr. Capwell for making me feel so special with this little rendezvous."
"I love you too my darling Sophia." He then leaned down and kissed the inviting lips of his incredible wife. This playful courtship was only the beginning of how they intended to enjoy their evening. CC and Sophia disengaged from their embrace and walked off the dance floor holding hands; each having every intention of going to their room to finish what had just begun in the ballroom under the guise of the soft lights, melodic music and breathtaking dance moves.
As they began to weave their way through the dinner tables, they were approached by an older gentleman.
"Are you two newlyweds?" he inquired.
"Well, not exactly," responded CC. He gave Sophia's hand a squeeze. She returned the
gesture.
"Oh, I just thought you were since you looked like a couple who is on their honeymoon. Your love for each other is
palpable," said the man.
With graciousness, Sophia replied, "Thank you so much for the nice compliment.
We're not exactly newly married since we've known each other almost our entire lives, but you are right that we do love each other very much and every day with this guy feels like a never-ending honeymoon."
CC followed Sophia's statement. "I feel the same way about her. She is truly my better
half. She's the woman of my dreams and I feel very blessed to spend each day with her. She is the light of my
life."
While nodding his head, the man continued, "As I mentioned, your love for one another is quite evident. You both are lucky to have found one another."
CC happily said, "Yes, we sure are and we don't take that gift for granted." In a loving gesture, CC brought their joined hands up and kissed the back of
Sophia's hand.
While the men were conversing, Sophia felt a peculiar vibe that she had met this man before so she
asked, "Have we met before? I'm getting a strange feeling that we know each
other. What's your name?"
"My name is Matthew Jenkins."
Sophia searched the corners of her mind as the name Matthew Jenkins was paired with her past experiences. Suddenly, it dawned on her who he
was. "Oh, are you the same Matthew Jenkins that directed the film, Ships in the
Night?"
"Why yes I am. So you are Sophia Wayne!" he surprisingly said. Sophia nodded yes and then Matthew
continued, "Wow, what a great surprise to see you again after all of these years. You were such an amazing actress and I tried to follow your career, but it just seemed to stop and then I never heard about you again."
"Well, actually, I am now Sophia Capwell." She raised her hand in CC's direction and
said, "This is my husband CC Capwell."
CC extended his right hand and shook Mr. Jenkins' hand. "Nice to meet you Mr. Jenkins."
"Likewise, please call me Matthew and I must say that you are one lucky man to have married such a wonderful woman."
"I couldn't agree with you more. She sure is amazing," CC said with a big smile.
Sophia interjected, "You are correct Matthew that my career did stop since my life took a long detour, which
didn't allow me to pursue my acting, but everything happens for a reason and my life turned out exactly how it was supposed to. I was grateful that I was given the chance to make those movies in my younger years, but that lifestyle was just not in the cards for me. Instead, I embarked on marriage, children and running a corporation. So, did you stay in the business of directing?"
"Well, I did direct several films, but once I dabbled in photography, that is where I found my true passion. At first, I concentrated on black and white photos of people in natural settings. My interest then segued into edgier topics of crime scenes, so I hooked up with an investigation crime lab and have worked with the forensics department for the past several years."
"That sounds very interesting and I'm sure it's fulfilling to know that your detective work makes a difference in the lives of these individuals who have either been a victim or for the family members of a victim," Sophia
commented.
"Yes, it definitely is a never-ending pursuit for justice, but it can be scary too since we have to testify in court with some raw evidence that can lead to a strong conviction. You always feel like you are looking over your shoulder, especially when you know that a felon has recently been paroled," confessed Mr.
Jenkins.
"So what brings you aboard this cruise?" asked Sophia.
"Much needed rest and relaxation." He then paused and looked at Sophia was intense eyes. CC instantly noticed him staring at Sophia and it made him feel very uncomfortable. Matthew snapped out of his thoughts and
said, "Oh, pardon me for staring; I just can't get over how wonderful you look
Sophia." He then reached out and touched Sophia's arm. "The years have been so kind to you."
While still resting his hand on Sophia's arm, Matthew looked at CC and asked, "Would you mind if I asked Sophia for a dance? We can reminisce about the old days and not bore you with the details." He then
chuckled.
"Oh, rest assured that Sophia and I have chatted about her days on the big screen and
it's very interesting, but please go ahead and dance with my wife." CC said with a small smile, but wanted to make sure that Matthew got the point that Sophia was his wife. Once Matthew and Sophia turned towards the dance
floor, CC's eyes narrowed as he began to study this director fella that seemed to be so enthralled by Sophia. She may have sensed a feeling of familiarity with Matthew, but CC sensed a darker, more sinister side. He may have just met the man, but CC already
didn't trust him.
Whatever Matthew was saying to Sophia, she seemed to be very engaged. At one point, he even leaned into her and whispered something in her ear; his hand disappeared from
sight. Sophia's reaction was a combination of surprise and embarrassment while she relived this memory. CC was not thrilled by this display on the dance floor upon which he and Sophia had just shared an intensely romantic moment. What CC did not see was the item that Matthew had dropped into
Sophia's handbag.
CC was anxious for the song to end so this little encounter would end as well. As the couples exited the dance area, Matthew guided Sophia back to a very impatient CC.
Matthew's hand remained around Sophia's waist until she met up with CC, at which time she broke away from Matthew and slipped her arm around
CC's back. CC let out a noticeably heavy sigh and put his hand up around Sophia's shoulder and pulled her close to him. Having Sophia by his side allowed his blood pressure to ease up a bit.
CC looked at Matthew with disapproving eyes and sarcastically asked, "So did you two get caught up on your past lives or is another dance in your
future?"
Sophia was taken aback by the sharp tone in CC's voice and replied in a much nicer
manner, "Um no darling, we were just talking about the silly things we used to do on set and chatting about the other crew members who worked on the
film."
Matthew took a few steps towards Sophia and gave her a small kiss on the cheek. "It truly was a pleasure to see you again. I wish you continued happiness in your
life."
Sophia smiled and replied, "Thank you Matthew and I too wish you every happiness."
CC took Sophia's hand and escorted her out of the ballroom. As they were walking down the hall towards their room, CC asked in a cynical pitch,
"So what secrets were you and Mr. Jenkins exchanging out there on the dance floor?"
"Oh, he just reminded me of something that happened a long time ago. It was no big deal." Sophia said
nonchalantly.
"Well, by your reaction, it didn't seem like it was no big deal; so enlighten me on the character of this Mr. Jenkins," CC
said.
"Why do I get the feeling that you don't like Matthew? CC, you just met him so I'm not sure why you have this
attitude," Sophia said with a bit of an edge to her voice now since she was completely baffled as to why CC was making such an issue out of her having one dance with Matthew.
Before CC answered Sophia's question, he unlocked the door to their suite and walked right in. He
didn't even turn around to see if she was behind him. Sophia followed and shut the door with a forceful push. She headed towards the bedroom and set her handbag on the dresser. She was about to change out of her dress, but stopped when CC appeared in the
doorway.
"Yes, you are correct that I am suspicious of Matthew's motives. This guy was totally enamored with
you. Don't you think it was a little strange that he suddenly came up to us like that? He must have recognized you before he approached us. You were in a movie of his for-heaven sakes so I would think he would be able to know who you were, even if it has been years. So what was the secret? CC asked
again.
"I'd rather not tell you since I know it will just start an argument," Sophia said with
hesitation.
"We're well past that point so tell me what he said!" insisted CC. Sophia just rolled her eyes and
replied, "I know I'm going to regret this, but I know you will not let this drop until I tell you. He reminded me of the time we kissed. Honestly, I had forgotten about it since it
wasn't even memorable."
"Well apparently it was very memorable for him and he couldn't wait to remind
you. Didn't you notice that he seemed totally infatuated with you and let's not even discuss the kiss he gave you again upon our goodbye?" CC incredulously
asked.
"To be honest, no I didn't notice his supposed infatuation. He's just a past acquaintance. It was fun to reminisce about my first movie," Sophia said with calmness in her
voice.
"So if he was the director and you were the star, what lead you two to kissing each other?" asked CC.
"I don't remember the exact situation, but it was more him kissing me since I
didn't feel that way towards him."
"Well, if he had his way this evening, I'm sure he would have tried to recreate that scene with you," CC harshly
said.
"I can't believe you just said that CC! This conversation is just insane. He had no intention of doing anything with me other than talking about a film that we worked on many years ago. Why are you so fixated on the details of one kiss that I
don't even remember or for that matter occurred before I even met you?"
"His fascination with you just seemed odd and the fact that he wanted to talk to you alone on the dance floor made me wonder what he wanted to tell you out of ear shot. And why did he have to whisper in your ear about the kiss. Why did he have to get that close? The man had ulterior
motives!" exclaimed CC.
"Oh please CC don't be so melodramatic! This isn't about him at all, it's about you and your jealously. It was an innocent meeting and we reminisced about some past memories. That was all! You know, this childish side of you really annoys
me."
"That was not all since I was the witness to his secret obsession with you," surmised CC.
"Obsession! CC, that's crazy. I can't believe you just said that. You have really lost your
mind. I'm not continuing this ridiculous conversation. I'm going to bed!"
"I'm right and you know it. If we run into him again, I don't want you talking to him," demanded CC.
"You can't be serious! You have blown this way out of proportion. I just can't believe that you are acting like such a
fool. "You can't tell me who I can or cannot talk to since I'll speak with whomever I want too," said Sophia with conviction.
Sophia was so infuriated with CC. She turned around to look out the bedroom window to try to calm herself down. CC turned in the opposite direction and just gritted his teeth and sighed a few times, but after a few seconds he turned his head towards his wife. He noticed how the orange glow of the setting sun cast a soft light on her face. The sunset illuminated the natural blonde highlights that were streaking through her tousled hair. The sinking sunlight only enhanced her piercing, blue eyes and high cheek bones. At that moment, she looked absolutely radiant. He
couldn't resist her beauty or sex appeal so he quickly took a few steps toward her and in one swift movement he wrapped his arms around her. Sophia was shocked by his sudden presence behind her and instinctively turned her head. In that instant,
CC's mouth captured hers in a deep, French kiss. Sophia was swept away by the powerful and luxurious kiss, but once she was able to collect her thoughts, she squirmed herself away from
CC's embrace. She took in a deep breath since CC's kiss had all but taken away her last intake of air. She clenched her jaw and her eyes locked onto his. She was about to yell at him, but was surprised to see that his eyes had taken on a softer expression. It was more a look of desire than of anger. As much as she wanted to be mad at him, she only found herself extremely attracted to him. Her earlier feelings on the dance floor came flooding back into her heart. Her body ached for his so she let her heart guide her actions and she stepped right back up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down for a sensual kiss. CC responded in kind, but could feel the tension in
Sophia's body and lips and so he was determined to make her release it in a more productive way than continuing the disagreement that he had started. As they persistently kissed each other, Sophia began to feverishly undo the buttons on
CC's white shirt and quickly pushed it over his shoulders and down his arms. CC helped to pull his hands free from the shirt that had suddenly felt like a cotton restraint. Sophia began to smother his chest with light kisses. After
CC's hands were freed, he unzipped the back of Sophia's silk dress and pushed the sleeves off of her soft shoulders. He leaned down and kissed her neck, while he rubbed her shoulder blades. He lingered there for only a few seconds as he was too overcome with yearning for his wife to prolong the intensity of the seduction. Once her dress fell to the floor, CC wrapped his arms around Sophia and spun her around so that her back was facing the bed. While supporting her waist and head, he gently laid her down on the bed and
said, "You are still the most beautiful and vivacious woman that I've ever known." His hand glided over her bra and slid down her waist. Sophia was too caught up in the rapture to speak so she placed her hands around
CC's back and pressed him down upon her for another tantalizing kiss. She didn't intend to waste her energy on thoughts and words. She much preferred to stay focused on the mission at hand. Within minutes, they found themselves encapsulated in the world of ecstasy.
Twenty minutes had elapsed before Mr. and Mrs. Capwell separated and were lying next to each other. After
Sophia's breathing returned to a normal rate, she turned on her right side to face CC.
"Wow that was incredible."
"You sure are. You never cease to amaze me!" replied CC.
"You're not too bad yourself, but the next time we have an argument, let's not fight about something that is so petty. We took this trip to enjoy each
other's company. I don't want to fight with you and I certainly don't want any silly disagreement to precede us making
love."
"You're right, but you have to admit that this little encounter was exciting. It's amazing how we channeled our angry feelings into something much more worthwhile," concluded CC as he picked up
Sophia's left hand and intertwined his fingers with hers. He then began to play with her wedding ring.
"Yeah, I do have to agree that angry sex does have its privileges," Sophia replied with a coy smile and then leaned forward to give CC a
kiss. "Now darling can we just not talk about Matthew anymore?"
"You got it sweetheart. I'm sorry for getting so upset and saying some pretty ludicrous things. The old green-eyed monster is still alive and kicking. I told you a long time ago that I get very jealous of other man looking at you or talking to you in a manner that I feel is crossing the
line."
"But you need to know that these other men that you are referring too can do or say anything that they would like, but
it's you that I love with all of my heart and it's you that I share my life with.
It's only you with whom I would let myself do the things I just did for the past half an
hour. I've never been this open with anyone else. It's like there are no walls, no inhibitions to hold me back from completely loving you and allowing you to do things with me that I would never let anyone else
do."
"You never told me that before. I'm flattered, but also very honored that you can let your heart be so free with me. On the flip side, I have to admit that
I've only experienced certain things with you too. When you left my life, I had always held those things sacred, hoping that one day in the future I would have the chance to enjoy them again with you. Then all my wishes came true the day you said you wanted to be my wife again." He reached over and kissed Sophia
softly. "We have a real partnership and I do apologize if I come across as overbearing sometimes, but
it's only because I know you have been through a lot in your life and I want this time now to be as carefree as possible. I
don't want you to ever be in harms way. I know that I have personally caused you a lot of pain and I just want to try and make it up to you. My life would be meaningless without you. Please know baby that
I'm not trying to hinder your independence, but do realize that I will defend our marriage if I feel
it's being threatened."
"So I take it that you feel Matthew is a threat? Well, he's not. I told you years ago that I felt that something was missing in my life and that I
didn't think I could find it as long as I was missing you too. It's been a long and painful journey, but I finally came to realize that I was not only missing you, but I was missing us. As much as I foolishly tried to fight our reunion time and time again, I would always find myself wanting exactly what we have now. I
can't tell you how much our vows mean to me, how much you mean to me and how I cherish our days
together. Let's just enjoy the fortune that has been bestowed upon us. This is our moment so
let's just appreciate our union. Let's not allow anyone or anything to spoil that. There is no reason to feel jealous. My heart is yours forever." With that said, Sophia kissed CC tenderly.
After cuddling in each other's arms for a little while longer, they decided to get up. They slipped on some robes and then walked out onto the balcony to watch the sun descending in the Western sky. The air was thick with the combination of fragrant flowers swirling with the smell of salt water. They watched the waves as they gently rolled up to crash into an island that was in the distance and then quickly retreat back into the waiting arms of the open ocean. CC wrapped his arms around
Sophia's shoulders and pulled her back into him. Feeling her body against his was electrifying. Just when he thought his love for her could not penetrate his soul anymore, the mere touch of her body made him sink deeper into the abyss of love. He felt so grateful that he was given another chance to be with the one person that he was truly connected with on the most intimate level. CC
whispered, "The sun, the stars and the moon have nothing over on you Mrs. Capwell! He pointed to the now darkened
sky, "See that bright shining star, it's from the constellation Orion. It represents love and vitality. Being with you is pure heaven. You are my best friend, my most trusted confidant and the best lover
I've ever had. I need you to know that the other women that have come into my life were just substitutes for you. Nobody has ever compared to you and no woman has ever intrigued me more. You are the most important person to me and
I'm still so madly in love with you."
"Thank you, Sweetheart, for saying such touching things. We are quite a team you know.
You're my touch stone and for that, I will always be grateful. Being in your arms is like a sanctuary. During the times when we were apart, deep within my soul, I had a sense to recognize that I
didn't know how to let you go. I did what I had to do and forged my way through the path of thorns to make my way back to your heart. It was as if my unconscious pulled me towards this profound light which drew me along my journey. I made mistakes, said hurtful things, trusted in those who did not have my best interest at heart and denied my feelings. All the while, destiny was written for us. We have our own goals, desires and independence, yet our very beings meld into one. I am truly thankful that we were given another chance to get it right and to just relax in our union. You gave me such wonderful children, who in turn produced our beautiful grandchildren. Our legacy will live on in the hearts of those precious kids. I love you too with every fiber of my being."
CC replied, "You are so kissable."
"Then kiss me my prince," Sophia commented back. CC brought his hand up to
Sophia's chin and turned her head slightly and gently kissed her under the now soft moonlit sky. They slipped back into the bedroom and got ready for their last
night's stay in the cabin.
Sophia could hear the waves as the ship cruised through the open waters. The morning sunlight beamed a welcoming ray of light through the porthole and illuminated the headboard. She followed the ray which came to rest above
CC's head. She looked at her lover's face and silently thanked him for his love and protection. As much as she protested the times when she felt he was being too protective or making irrational statements, such as those he made last night, she knew that he was only saying those things out of love. She had to admit that on multiple occasions, his instinct about people, especially other men, was right. She confessed that he was right about a few men in her past and he could see their unhealthy motives way before she could. She loved CC in all ways and with that commitment, she accepted all of him, which included his occasional obstinate ways when strangers entered their lives. She knew that in the end, he always means well, but his delivery can be loud and overbearing. With that thought on this beautiful, warm morning, Sophia slipped out from under the covers and headed to the bathroom.
As she glided by the dresser, she picked up her handbag from last night and set it on the sink. She reached for her lip balm in her purse when her hand grasped a round canister. Knowing this
wasn't her chapstick, she removed the object. It was a film canister. It wasn't in there yesterday evening. Who put this in her bag? As her face became quizzical as her memories flipped through the prior
day's events, she decided to pull off the lid of the container. Inside, she found a key. She pulled it out. Hanging from an attached string was a little note. It said, Here is the key to the tower. Meet me at noon in the presidential suite. Instantly, a smile came across her face since she knew that it was from CC. He must has put this in her bag late last night. She was happy that he had planned a secret meeting at the commencement of the cruise.
After she finished her shower, she opened the door. CC was sitting up stretching and greeted her
warmly, "Good morning Darling."
"Good morning to you my love!" She walked over the man of her dreams and bent down to give him a kiss. She then strode over to the closet to decide what she was going to wear on the mysterious excursion that CC has planned.
CC just gazed at his wife's sensual form as she flipped through her clothes. "You know you will look exquisite in anything you select, however I must say that I prefer you to be out of your clothes cuddled up next to
me," he said with an air of playfulness.
"CC Capwell, I am a lady and I just can't tolerate that kind of talk!" Sophia said jokingly. She turned around and raised her eyebrows to let him know that she relished in the notion of her man looking at her with alluring eyes. To try to prod CC out of his unspoken plans for her, she needed to be sly with her words since CC was notorious for surprises, which he never
revealed. "So babe, what would you like to do on this last day of the cruise? Anything special??"
CC let out a sigh which revealed his downed mood that this trip was about to end.
"Well my dear, I say we get some breakfast and then catch a few rays by the pool. How does that strike your fancy?"
Damn, he didn't fall for it, Sophia deduced. "That's sounds lovely. I will put on my swimsuit under my tank top and skirt."
CC stood up and made a stop by Sophia to give her a quick kiss on the lips before he retreated to the bathroom to get ready for breakfast. Once CC emerged, Sophia reentered to retrieve the key. As she fished the key from the container, the string came loose and settled to the bottom of the canister. Sophia placed the key in her small purse and just smiled as to what CC had in store for her.
CC and Sophia walked into the dining room with their arms entangled. They both had playful grins on their faces. They appeared so in love as the lonely man in the corner observed. He watched
Sophia's every move as she ate her breakfast and sipped her coffee.
Once breakfast concluded, the happy couple left the dining area and made their way to the pool. The bright, hot sunshine basked the pool area with such an intense light that neither CC nor Sophia noticed the man that was lurking behind the corner beam of the outside bar.
Sophia and CC settled into their chaise lounges and let the sun soak into their bodies. They closed their eyes in relaxation. After a while, Sophia looked down at her watch and noticed that it was 11:45pm. A grin appeared on her face with anticipation.
Mathew just sat the bar sipping his drink. He too looked at this watch and with a different type of anticipation, he too grinned. He then caught the attention of the bartender and passed a note to
him. "Can you please take this note over to that gentlemen?" pointing to CC. "Sure thing mister," exclaimed the server. As he walked away, Mathew slid off the stool and disappeared to room 101.
"Excuse me sir," said the bartender, "the gentlemen over at the bar asked me to give this to you."
CC took off his sunglasses and looked at the bartender and then extended his hand to collect the folder
paper. "Thank you. Did this gentleman give his name? he asked.
"No sir, he didn't, but he's sitting right over there." As he pointed, he saw that the stool was now
unoccupied. "Well, he was there a minute ago. Hmmm, I guess he left."
"Um okay, thank you anyway," said CC. The waiter walked away and now Sophia removed her sunglasses and
remarked, "well what does the note say?" She was getting excited since she knew the surprise was about to be exposed.
CC opened note and read it out loud. Please come down to see us. Signed the Concierge.
CC shrugged his shoulders since was had no idea of what they wanted. He had not asked them for anything. He chalked it up to a possible question on his bill since they would be disembarking
soon. "Well honey, let me go see what they want. You hang out here and I'll be back shortly."
"Sure CC, I'll just patiently wait and enjoy some more of this amazing blue sky." CC swung his legs over and then leaned over to Sophia and gave her a kiss and
said, "I love you." Sophia countered with, "I love you more!"
Sophia watched CC walk to the staircase leading down the Concierges. She loved his rugged, masculine stride.
Once CC was out of sight, it was Sophia's turn to swing her legs over the chaise and to get up to make her way to room 101. She was getting butterflies in her stomach with excitement. She made her way down a few decks and walked down a long hallway. At the end was room 101. She reached in her bag and clasped the key. She inserted it in the handle and pushed the door open. The room was dark which piqued her interest. She took a few more steps into the room when a strong hand grasped her wrist and yanked her into the room. She screamed out as the pain in her wrist shot up her arm.
Just then, the lights came on and standing before her was not her beloved CC, but was Matthew. His hair was disheveled and his eyes were dark and cold. He spoke
first, "Well, well, well, after all these years, I finally have Miss Sophia Wayne by my
side. It's been a long, long time and I have waited for this moment forever." He then pulled Sophia into the bedroom and closed the door behind him.
Sophia stomach sank and her body began to shake. Oh no, what has happened?? She tried to put the pieces together and all she could do was come to the realization the CC was absolutely right about
Matthew. "Please don't hurt me," was all that she could muster.
Matthew looked at her with his sinister eyes and said, "To be honest, I'm not sure what
I'm going to do with you now that I finally have you. The possibilities are endless." With that, he shoved Sophia onto the bed and opened the top dresser drawer.
Sophia eyes began to well with tears as the terror of the moment washed over her like a tsunami. She watched Matthew pull a rope out the drawer and then he came towards her. Sophia shrank away, which Matthew noticed and he grabbed her wrist and wrapped the rope around her wrist tight then then pulled it over the bed post where he tied the rope snug. Sophia tried not to move for fear he would strike her.
Mathew stepped back and began his ramble, "I have been searching for you for years. When you dropped out of the movie business, it took me months to track you down. That is when I discovered that you married the powerful CC Capwell and were surrounded by a fortress of the rich and famous. I knew that I
couldn't get to you at that time so I've been waiting patiently to find my beautiful starlet. Being in the investigation business, I could keep track of your life. You have had some kind of life Miss Wayne. I was highly disappointed that you would once again married CC Capwell. I thought for sure you would have come to your senses and realized that you belonged to me. Why
didn't you try to find me??" Before Sophia could utter an answer, Matthew
continued. "When I saw you dancing with CC last night, I was sick to my stomach. I saw this fake, happy couple dancing.
Didn't you even see me sitting there? How could you have missed me? How could you pretend to be with CC knowing that you truly wanted to be with
ME?!" he said emphatically.
Sophia just sat there silently as the tears streamed down her face. The pain in her wrist was no match to the pain in her heart that she was so foolish to blindly think that this arrangement was an innocent gesture from CC. CC, her mind focused on him. He will soon find out that the note from the bartender was fake and that I am gone. She silently said a prayer that he would find the canister and figure out where she
was.
Matthew's harsh voice snapped Sophia from her internal conversation, "So now that I have you right where I want you, where should we start first?! We are now truly ships in the night. It has finally come full circle." As he stepped forward, there was a knock on the door. With a huff, he
barked, "don't you dare scream or make any noise. I have a gun and I will kill you!" With the threat spoken, he turned and left the room, closing the door behind him.
Sophia let out a small sigh of relief that the distraction gave her a few more moments of life. She wondered where CC was.
CC returned to the pool in a snit since the Concierge didn't have any knowledge of needing him. Upon returning to the lounge chairs, he
didn't see Sophia. He looked around perplexed wondering if she moved. He scanned the whole pool area but
couldn't find his wife anywhere. She would not have left and if she did, she would have told someone. He walked over to the bar and asked the bartender if he saw Sophia leave. He said yes that she had left by herself and walked down the stairs. He decided to go to the room thinking she was there. Upon entering their room, he called for her. Silence. He then looked around, but no sign of Sophia. A wave of panic washed over him and he instinctively rushed out of the room to return to the
Concierge's desk that he recently left.
The concierge saw CC rushing towards them exclaiming that, "I need your help to find my wife!" He recounted the events of the day and that the note had to have been a ruse to get him away from Sophia. As he regurgitated the story, it dawned on him that this could be connected with Mr. Matthew Jenkins. He asked the Concierge to find out which room Matthew was staying in. They searched the records, but found no name of this kind. CC was beginning to become
furious, "Oh bloody Hell, find my wife!!" He then instructed them to get the security officers and then search every room on the ship.
He asked one of the deckhands to return with him to his room to search for clues.
In the meantime, Sophia sat motionless on the bed as she could hear muffled voices on the other side of the door. She so badly wanted to scream, but knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Matthew meant what he said about killing her. As she heard the room door close, her heart sank even further. She watched in horror as she saw the door handle turn and in walked the disturbed man who was now standing in front of
her. "I was so angered that you didn't remember our kiss," he hissed. "How could you be so
heartless. I've waited for you all this time and you couldn't even give me the time of day. All you did was dote on CC as if he could possibly give you all that I can. I obviously cherished that kiss far more than you did. Now I just have to make you wait like you did to me for so many years." He then reached out and touched the side of her face with his hand. Sophia recoiled from the
touch. "That's just the beginning Sophia. More to come in a bit."
He then turned and left the room. Sophia's mind raced with thoughts on all that he had planned to do with her. Her body began to shudder with fear as the most imaginable thoughts began to play across her consciousness. She began to beg for CC to find her.
CC entered their berth with a focus on finding anything that would help lead him to his precious Sophia. He knew in his heart that she was in danger. He told the crew member to search the living room, while he searched the bedroom. He looked around frantically, but could not find anything. He felt so defeated. He slumped down on the bed and buried his head in his hands and started to cry. He slowly lifted his head and as he scanned the room, his eyes caught a small black object on the bathroom sink. He hurried over to the container and picked it up. He flipped it over and to his surprise, the string and the attached note tumbled out. He read it
Here is the key to the tower. Meet me at noon in the presidential suite
he instantly knew where she was and ran out of the room screaming to the young man to follow him that he knew where Sophia was. He told the crew worker to get him to room 101 and to bring help.
He figured out the clues
the tower was the Capwell hotel and the presidential suite was room 101.
The deckhand called on his radio to direct the security officers and to meet at room 101, but to be careful. As six officers, the deckhand and CC descended on room 101, they fell silent as to not spark any kind of disorder.
After what seemed like an eternity, but was only a few minutes in reality, Matthew returned to the bedroom and
said, "let the games begin! Let's start by removing those clothes!"
Sophia squeezed her legs together and stiffened her body. Matthew approached her and grabbed the material of her tank top that was tucked in at the waist of her flowing skirt. Sophia turned her face away and just sat there in sheer terror as this unbelievable scene was
unfolding. Matthew's hand was cold and clammy as it brushed against Sophia's arm. Matthew yanked up the tank and began to slowly pull it up, when there was another knock on the
door. "Dammit!," screamed Matthew. He abandoned the task at hand and rushed out of the door. Sophia collapsed forward and just uncontrollably cried. Just then, she heard loud voices
yelling, "Get down on the ground!" She heard Matthew scream and then a loud thud shook the floor. From the commotion, she could tell that there were several people in the adjacent room. Only a wall separated her from freedom. Should she scream, should she kick the nightstand
. she should not say anything
her mind raced with converging thoughts. Above the cacophony of noises, she detected a single
voice, "Sophia, are you here? Where are you!?" yelled CC.
Sophia wasn't sure at first if this was reality that she actually heard CC's booming voice. She
didn't want to make a mistake by shouting out only to find out that Matthew was playing a cruel joke on her. She felt so disoriented.
CC again screamed her name, "Sophia!" This time she felt 100% certain it was CC.
"I'm here, I'm here. In the bedroom!" shouted Sophia. As in a wind tunnel, suddenly the door flew open and
CC's figure framed the doorway. He ran up to her, sat on the bed and wrapped his arms around her, not realizing that she could only hold onto him with one hand since a rope had kept her imprisoned in this room of horror. She leaned into his arms and
wept. "Are you hurt?" asked CC.
"Just from this rope! CC then saw the rope that had been placed on her wrist and followed it to the bedpost. Sophia
pleaded, "Please get it off of me!" At that second, CC frantically started to untie the unmerciful restraint that had bound his wife to this dungeon of a room. Within a minute, he undid the knot and freed Sophia. At that very second, they fully embraced and both let out the breath that they
hadn't noticed they had been holding.
Matthew's voice echoed through the cabin as he yelled, "Sophia is mine! She has always loved me! Let me go! Get off of
me!" CC untangled himself from Sophia and slid his body in front of hers to become a human shield. Sophia grabbed the shirt on his back and they both gingerly stepped towards the door.
Four of the strong security officers were sitting on Matthews limbs to immobilize him. The other office was holding the gun with a shirt as to not remove any fingerprints. Matthew was now handcuffed. With force, the four guys yanked Matthew to stand up and began moving him towards the door. They kept him facing forward so that he was unable to turn back. He began rambling again about his professed love for Sophia as he was being shoved down the hallway.
CC turned around to gather a very frightened Sophia. She crushed her body against his and held onto him tightly. CC held her against his chest and closed his eyes in exhaustion and relief. He needed to ask her what Matthew had done to her, but knew he needed to give her a few minutes to process the events of the last hour.
The Captain and the Assistant Director were now in the room. They instructed the 2 remaining offices to do an intake of the room. The Captain then motioned for CC and Sophia to exit the room. The Captain escorted them to the security quarters. They sat down on a bench as several offices crowded around them, partly to hear as many details as possible and partly as a human barrier since they felt empathy for the scared, classy lady that
didn't deserve this while in the care of the crew. CC looked at Sophia and asked if she could talk. Sophia slowly released her tight hold on CC, but still held onto his arms. She turned her head towards the Captain and the others that had gathered and spilled out the events of what transpired as she was held against her will. She was so brave and was able to provide every minuscule detail. When she stated that Matthew began to take off her tank top, CC drew in his breath at the thought. Inside, he was seething with hatred for Matthew, but gently rubbed
Sophia's back as she spoke to not give away his feelings. He wanted to reassure her that he was there for
her. Sophia's voice kept cracking, but she was determined to give a full and complete statement. The
ship's doctor came into the room and tended to her now crimson and swollen wrist. He wrapped it and gave her pain meds.
After the ordeal of recounting the crime was over, the Captain thanked them both and profusely apologized for this horrible incident. He them told them they could leave as the ship had docked. Their belongings had been brought to them. CC and Sophia walked down the ramp and into a waiting limo. Once inside the vehicle, CC scooped Sophia into his arms and held her close against his chest. They were driven to the airport, where they boarded the Capwell plane and headed home. Sophia
didn't say much in the car and just slept on the plane. The pain meds awarded her the gift of sleep.
Once home, Sophia went straight to their bedroom. It was late and she just wanted to take a shower and then crawl into bed. While Sophia was letting the shower wash away the
day's ugliness, CC unpacked their belongings and put the suitcases away as to hide away any reminders of the trip.
Once Sophia emerged from the on suite, she pulled back the comforter and got into bed. CC soon joined her. He reached over and placed his hand on
Sophia's arm. She turned over and gave CC a small smile, "Thanks honey. I am so tired and I just want you to hold
me." CC obliged and gathered Sophia in his arms. "I'm just glad it's over and that we are here safe in our bed. I love
you. I'll be here for you all night. Just rest now." With CC's arms protecting her, Sophia drifted off to sleep.
Sophia remained aloof for a few days. Her family physician completed a physical and mental exam. Sophia told him that she was just scared, but that she would be okay. The doctor prescribed a few anxiety pills to help ease the anguish. CC tried to provide as much comfort as much as he could, but knew she needed to work through the agony she experienced. He
didn't push her to talk. They only chatted about meaningless topics. Sophia stuck by
CC's side as much as possible since she needed him to be in her presence. She needed to feel safe and needed to rely on his strength.
On the third day, the morning's peaceful breakfast was disrupted by the phone ringing. Marie appeared with a phone in her hand and
said, "CC, I hate to interrupt, but I think you need to take this. It's the
police."
CC looked up from the paper and turned towards Marie. Sophia dropped her fork onto her plate. The clank of the steel hitting the porcelain plate punctuated the startling sound the phone made seconds ago. Her heart dropped.
Marie handed CC the phone, turned around and walked back to the kitchen. CC placed the phone to his ear and then extended his free hand to cover
Sophia's trembling arm.
"This is CC
..yes, I do
okay
.what happened
..," he pursed his lips and gave a quick squeeze to
Sophia's arm
he continued, "as you can imagine, I can't say that I am sorry to hear this. At least he is no longer tortured by psychotic thoughts
.. thank you for letting us know
okay goodbye." With that, CC placed the phone on table and looked at Sophia.
"It's all over with honey. That was the investigator on the case. Matthew committed suicide in his cell."
Sophia just closed her eyes in relief at the hearing of this news. She has such a caring heart, but in this case, she just shook her head at the loss of a tortured mind. She looked lovingly at CC and
said, "It's finally all over with. I am glad that I don't have to testify and have to relive that nightmare. You were completely right about Matthew. I feel so foolish for falling for the trap."
"It wasn't your fault. How could you have known of his diabolical plan," CC said with care in in
voice. "The good part was that you weren't more seriously hurt."
Sophia replied, "I am grateful that it didn't escalate further. My wrist can heal and he
didn't do anything to shake my confidence in myself or in us. CC you must know that you saved me. You figured out the clues. You are my knight in shining armor as you came to my rescue." She stood up and walked around to
CC's back and leaned over him and wrapped her arms around his chest. She turned her head and kissed him gently on the cheek. CC welcomed her touch. He then brought her around and sat her in his lap and hugged her tightly so their bodies melted into one. He wanted to wrap her body in his love. He knew that Sophia was going to be just fine. His wife was going to be just fine.
The annual Labor Day party was coming up in a few days and Sophia had every intention of attending since she needed to get back into her normal life. She just wanted to forget about the cruise and concentrate on having fun and enjoying her family. CC and Sophia decided together not to tell the family about the incident right now since she
didn't want them to needlessly worry. They could tell them about it at a later time.
The final summer holiday of the season descended upon Santa Barbara with a hot, sultry blanket of sunshine. The warmth was invigorating and provided a sense of renewed life and energy. In the afternoon hours, the house began to fill with family and friends. CC was in his glory being the gracious host. The kids played summer games outside. The adults busied themselves with dishing about all of their activities that were keeping them occupied. Sophia enjoyed her time with her friends. There was nothing better in town than a Capwell party. It had been a week since the cruise and Sophia was feeling refreshed. As she was laughing and smiling with the guests, feelings stirred within her. At first, she dismissed it, but then it dawned on her that she was missing her CC. Even though they had been by each
other's side, they kept from being intimate. Sophia needed a few days to rid her thoughts of the madman. CC picked up on these cues and wanted to give Sophia time. He was just so grateful that Sophia was okay and that nothing more physically occurred than a sore wrist, which was all healed. She was a tough, mentally strong woman. Through her life experiences and her love of CC and his love for her, Sophia was able to not let any of
Mathew's words or actions affect her psychologically. She was determined not to let a
lunatic's fantasy affect her well-being. She fought too hard to get where she was today. She was not going to let anyone or anything affect her happiness and the pure joy that CC and the family gave to her. The thought of CC made her smile.
While mingling at the party, CC and Sophia kept glancing at each other. At first, it was unintentional as it was a barometer of non-verbal behavior to see where the other one was in the mist of the party goers. It
wasn't that they were checking up, but more like checking in to let the other know that they cared and wanted to send reassurance. Soon, they realized that the other one was doing more than catching a glimpse. They began to play this seductive dance with their eyes. When Sophia would catch CC looking at her, she gave him a slight smile and then averted her eyes, only to look up again to capture his attention. CC was beginning to crave the closeness with his wife. Her coyness let him know that she wanted to be close to him as well. Even when CC would try to get involved with a conversation, his mind kept drifting to thoughts of his magnificent wife. He lost his train of thought while speaking to his buddies. He felt like a teenager with his first love. Well, he thought, Sophia was his first true love and has always been his favorite love. He had this overwhelming feeling to be with her and just wanted the party to end so he could stop fighting the urge. He wanted to run his fingers down her body and please her with no self-control.
Throughout the early part of the evening, CC met up with Sophia to eat and chat with family. They purposely avoiding coming in close contact to intensify the playful seduction. The
day's festivities commenced with the Capwell's famous fireworks display. When the first firework burst into the night sky, CC walked up to Sophia and snaked his arm around her waist. Instantly, her body felt goosebumps and tingly. She wanted nothing more than to be with her husband in the most vulnerable and passionate way. As Sophia wrapped her arm around
CC's back, she slid her hand down to his lumbar and gave him a quick squeeze. She could feel his muscles tighten under her touch and he cleared his throat to mask the sound of pleasure that was about to erupt. He looked down at her and shook his head to let her know that she was being naughty. She giggled and laid her head against his chest. They both watched the sky fill with vibrant colors and mystical shapes.
Once the last guest exited the house, CC turned to Sophia, "Wow that was some party. Thank you dear for being you. With all that has
happened, I'm so proud of you for being a pillar of strength." She smiled at his kind words and
replied, "It's easy to get through challenges when I know I have you! You are my rock and I know that I can rely on you."
"You bet you can kid! You are my true great love and I only want to make you happy. I meant every syllable when I said I will always be here for you," CC
stated.
"CC, let's go upstairs now since we need each other now more than ever," exclaimed Sophia.
Upon entering the entrance of their sanctuary, Sophia grinned at seeing the amazing transformation of their bedroom. The once dark red motif has been replaced by soft gray walls, an expansive white and gray Chevron pattern area rug, a white comforter that felt like a cloud when you laid back onto the gray pillows. The room was laced with an aqua accent color. Shear aqua and white curtains adorned the windows. The room radiated happiness, in more ways than one.
Sophia walked towards the bathroom and turned around to CC and winked, "I'll be right back my
love." CC replied, "I'll be here waiting for you my dear." He proceeded to change into black boxers. A few minutes later Sophia appeared in the doorway wearing a red silk nightgown with thin satin straps. She was a vision. CC was speechless and all he could do was admire the classic beauty that was standing in front of him. Sophia began to approach him. The curtains caught the nighttime breeze and welcomed it into the room.
Sophia's nightgown billowed in the soft wind, which illuminated her sensual curves.
CC intentionally swallowed hard, which made them both chuckle. He finally gained the ability to speak and looked lovingly at his gorgeous
wife, "You look stunning. You are my lady in red. All I want to do is make love to you."
Sophia walked up to her handsome husband and placed her hand on his cheek and
said, "All I want is you. All I ever need is you. Please, take me away."
CC could no longer resist the urge to caress her body. He led her to their bed and she laid back on the comforter. The softness greeted her and she pulled
CC's hands to come join her. He looked down into the elegant face of his partner for life. Her ocean blue eyes had that come-hither look and she drew in a breath. She licked her lips in anticipation of kissing her spouse. CC leaned down and kissed Sophia with passion. She arched her back so that her nightgown touched
CC's chest. He let out an audible breath. Sophia sank back down into the pillow soft comforter and smiled up at CC. He leaned down again and kissed her neck, which made Sophia arch up again to connect with
CC's body. CC's hand made its way to the left satin strap and he slid it down over her shoulder. He began to kiss her shoulder and made his way down her arm. When he reached her hand, he kissed her ring finger and came back up. Sophia closed her eyes since she wanted to cherish every touch. CC placed his hand on her leg and began to inch her nightgown up her thigh. It was now Sophia who let out an audible breath. She placed her hands on his arms and pulled herself up so her lips joined with his. They kissed as if it was the first time. From that point, they could no longer extend the foreplay and soon found each other connected in the most graceful and intimate way. They wanted their souls to connect on a higher level to strengthen their forever bond. There was never a more compassionate, endearing, sincere, loving couple than the incomparable CC and Sophia.
