 The
arrival of fearsome gangster Carlo Alvarez in Santa Barbara is announced
as soon as Dylan Hartley arrives a few days earlier. This latter is in
fact on the run, hunted down because of the map of a gold mine hidden
somewhere in Africa that he has in his possession. And the gangster in
pursuit of Dylan happens to be Carlo, a rich, powerful and especially
dangerous man.
With
the help of his friend Sam Williams who brought the map from Africa,
Dylan creates a copy to deceive Carlo. After having kidnapped the two
men on his yacht, Carlo realizes that he was duped and gives them 24
hours to give him the original map. Fearing for the survival of Sam and
Dylan, Nick, his brother, contacts Carlo and offers to give him the real
map. But during their appointment at night on the docks, a shot is fired
and Nick ends up in the hospital after having thrown the map in a blaze. Carlo
has the idea of spying on the two brothers from Nick's hospital room,
suspecting that they kept a copy of the map. This allows him to learn
that a photo of the map was previously taken by Nick. He sends his
henchmen to his place, but they let Kelly Capwell seize the photo. She
runs away with it to a ghost town, where Dylan joins her. Despite
Sam's threats, worried about his friend, Carlo sends his men to the
ghost town. He finds them there, while Kelly and Dylan try to escape on
a motorcycle. Showing himself most menacing than ever, Carlo drives
Kelly to the place where she hid the photo of the map. But Dylan has
already recovered it and, to save Kelly's life, gives the photo to
Carlo. Carlo
thus obtained what he had come for, victorious by the weapons and the
number of his accomplices. He shows however magnanimity by leaving life
to Dylan, who caused him many complications. However, the story does not
say whether Carlo managed to find the gold mine for which he went to so
much trouble, the character unfortunately disappearing a little too
quickly from the show...
