Seriously funny

"Everyone was staring at me. The stewardesses and everyone on the plane," Todd McKee laughs. "I was coming back from New York with Rick Edwards (ex-Jake, Santa Barbara) and a friend. I slept on the plane, and at the end of the flight I said my goodbyes, but they were smiling at me weird.

"I was walking through the airport and everyone was whispering. I thought, "Wow, I am really getting recognized." I got on the shuttle bus to the parking lot and they were all looking at me and pointing. I couldn't believe how many people were recognizing me from the show. I finally got home and brushed my teeth, and when I looked in the mirror I discovered they had written all over my face. I had a big moustache, goatee, black curly Q's on my cheeks," Todd screams. "I had to scrub to wash it off. I was so happy I didn't stop at the 7-Eleven on the way home."

It takes a great sense of humor to survive a situation like that. And maybe a good bar of soap. But don't worry, Todd McKee is a soap star with the wonderful disposition to not only survive such pranks - but, rather, initiate them.

Todd agrees, "I do seem to look for the lighter side of things and have fun. That's just the kind of person I am. I am very relaxed. I think that's because I am happy with myself. And since I am enjoying life, I want others to enjoy it, too."

But Todd McKee isn't relaxed enough to ignore the realities of business he is in. "I don't want to be a non-working actor or a poor actor, so that side of me is very serious. I am constantly striving to be better."

While Todd admits his Santa Barbara character has improved, especially with Hayley's rape story line, Ted Capwell's growth has been a double-edged sword. "I was so glad to see my character grow up," Todd says with relief. "Now I get more than just summertime play. But in the process, the serious scenes have edged out the fun stuff. I wish I could do more comedy. Some of the other characters seem to get to have all the fun, darn it." In particular Todd envies Justin Deas' Keith. "It would be so neat to play his character, but that's him. He's made that character."

As for his character, comedy or drama, Todd hopes for an involved fall story line. Whether that happens or not, Todd will still be busy dividing his time between acting classes, fixing up the house, French lessons and flying lessons. However, taking to the skies is something Todd awaits with excitement and fear. "I am really looking forward to getting my license. I want to be so ready for my solo flight," Todd pauses, "but it is going to be so scary." Todd reasons, "I better be ready. Flying lessons..."
