The saga of Mason continues on Santa Barbara, with Gordon Thompson (ex-Adam, Dynasty) signing a two-year contract as the third black-sheep Capwell.
Taking over the soap role doesn't seem to faze Thompson, who played Aristotle Benedict-White on Ryan's Hope in the early eighties. However, Thompson does acknowledge that, at first, he was apprehensive about the possible stigma attached to going back on a soap.
"That's when I realized I'd been here (in Hollywood) too long," he says ruefully. "I was thinking twice about taking over a leading part in an Emmy Award-winning daytime drama because it's daytime ? What in God's name is wrong with me ? So I quickly sorted that through. The huge difference, of course, is simply one of time... I have to say that an ensemble piece in prime time is the jammiest situation in the business. I was spoiled for several years (on Dynasty)."
As for Thompson's current gig ? "You're talking to a happy actor," he smiles.
