Santa
Barbara
recently launched an innovative advertising campaign that made the traditional
romantic pitches made by ABC and CBS (and their slogans, "Love in the
afternoon" and "In the heat of the day") seem stale and outdated.
In one promo, two maids watch the show on a break from cleaning the mansion. Gina Capwell makes one so mad she wants "to spit". In another, a young man acts out the rivalry between Nick and Dylan Hartley for the affections of Kelly Capwell, jumping from side to side for each man's argument.
This fresh and clever approach, using no actors, emphasizes the kick audiences get out of watching soaps and make you want to tune in to see if the show is as much fun as the commercials.
The commercials, by the way, also gave Santa Barbara something to live up to. We're always in the mood for adventuresome advertising like this.
