It
is only after Derek Griffin manages to leave Canada and return to Santa
Barbara that the existence of his loyal butler, Alfred Wright, is
revealed. Tall, discreet, and generally inexpressive, but with a curious
British accent, Alfred seems to have been in Derek's service for years
and is utterly loyal to him.
He
follows his boss even in his most dubious activities, such as when he
breaks into the Santa Barbara orphanage to steal files and then returns
to falsify them. He also does not hesitate, always in a very cold and
distant manner, to subtly threaten Eden Capwell, asking her to stay away
from Derek.
It
is only when he sees his boss losing his grip on reality and, thirsting
for revenge, determined to kill Mason Capwell, that he decides to curb
his loyalty. When he is forced to hand over the scoped rifle meant to
kill Mason to Derek, he confides in Craig Hunt, hoping that Craig can
reason with his childhood friend. When Derek realizes Alfred has
betrayed him, he asks if he is willing to go with him as he flees the
city, now that he is accused of attempted murder of Mason. Alfred
hesitates and, for the first time in years, dares to voice his
disagreement to his boss.
Just
when he thought he was free thanks to the intervention of his friend district
attorney Ethan Asher, Derek is arrested again by the police a few days
later. Alfred watches helplessly as his boss is arrested. He suddenly
finds himself without a mentor, without us knowing what his future holds...
